Flavour Fest at Hunter Valley Garden, Sunday 13.06.2010

Today we went to Flavour Fest at Hunter Valley Garden
This Flavour Fest was held since yesterday until tomorrow.

First we have to get in on a quite a long queue

At the entrance we were "welcome" by
a group of 4 beautiful Mammas
they called themselves
"Red Hot Chilli Mammas"

reminds me of a band called
"Red Hot Chilli Peppers"

Then we have to buy tokens
to taste wine and beer

Lots of Food Stalls
not only selling food but also
wine, jams, relishes, chutneys, cookies, cupcakes, etc.

We tried 2 pcs of Empanadas here
A$4.- each, yummy!

Lucky we got to see Janelle Bloom today.
She cooked chicken green curry and I don't remember
the other dish is sweets.

Tips from Janelle Bloom which are very useful:

1. trim off excess fat from chicken, trans fat is not good for you,
it will clogged your artery.

2. when you use wok to cook, seasoned your wok.
Apply oil on your wok, heat it on stove, once it's hot,
switch off the stove.  Pour refined salt, use kitchen tissue
(carefully not to burn your hands) rub the wok.
You will see black mark on the kitchen tissue.
Repeat this 4 times before you use it at the first time.

3. when you do stir fry, prepare all ingredients because
once you start the wok, everything will be going fast.

4. when you do stir fry, let you wok heat first without oil.
If you put oil in a wok and heat it, the oil will be hot first.
If you heat the wok first, the food won't stick on the wok.

5. if you have to stir fry lot of chicken pieces, do it in batches.
So chicken will be sealed immediately and
not stir frying in its own juice.

6. for green curry, don't shake the can of coconut milk/cream,
because you need the top layer which is thicker first,
then the rest.

7. green curry is the most spicy one.
Red and Yellow curry is much less spicy.

8. To clean wooden chopping board,
run it under warm water,
then make a paste (mix bi-carb soda and water),
smear the paste on chopping board surface,
leave it for few minutes
sometimes you will see the color changed to darken,
that because it absorb the impurities from the chopping board.
Then clean it properly under running hot water,
and let it dry under the sun.

Hope those tips will be useful for you, too
(^_^)

I got a glass of Rose Martini from this stand.
It's nice :-)
